A useful suggestion although once you begin adding plugins through Github, those same plugins immediately issue an error with dependency notification. So, alas, not possible. The core platform, version 3.08, will not function without key extensions and there should really be a differentiation between core extensions (which should always be updated in alignment with core upgrades) to allow key functionality and non-essential plugins. Somewhere along the development path, this seems to have got lost. Thanks for the suggestion regardless, I will wait for core upgrade and, in the meantime, look at the ways the dependencies have been organised.
