Thank you for the information. I like the MySQL trigger option, i actually never thought of it.

My idea was to use google cloud print API because of the flexibility to connect to all kind/brand of printer using google chrome. So with a hook in the addOrder process, everytime an order status is updated to a specified status (probably the default order status), the hook prints the order using GCP API. With GCP API, you can track all your printing jobs for failures or error. What do you think?

Just thinking, when we get an order it comes through as an email.

Can you buy a usb thermal printer which means we can print the order from the computer having a hard copy (I know it can be printed onto a larger printer im just thinking about space)

Another thought I had was using SMS gateways so when an email comes it sends the email SMS to a phone using 0777777777@mms.ee.co.uk but I think EE/THREE have disabled their SMS gateway (I might try this with an O2 sim as research shows this might work)

Does anyone have any other ideas on how we could get the orders sent via SMS or other ways we can print this without the use of larger printer

I know this was posted awhile ago, but I'm currently working on a project for a local pizza restaurant and I plan on printing out the orders on a thermal printer. My idea is using a thermal printer connected to a small computer (raspberry pi), then have a cron job running a script every 5 or 10 seconds to check the database for any new orders. If a new order is found print out the order.

Another option is to use a MySQL trigger to call an script to print the needed information. By default the MySQL trigger can't call external script and requires a plugin. Hopefully this info helps.
