Tax Classes Calculation

I’m using tax classes to solve a problem that some restaurants here have a sales tax exemption and it’s an incentive to customers to visit those restaurants.

The problem I’m having is that the base tax (which I’m using as a base for ALL restaurants is being calculated from the sub-total and the additional tax for those restaurants that don’t have the exemption.

You see there’s a difference of 2cents of the IVU 7% and it’s coming from the addition of the additional 4.5% of the full tax line. How can I change this to ONLY make the 7% be calculated ONLY from the sub-total? This way is calculating tax over tax.

PS: Also using Multi Vendor extension.

If I’m understanding correctly, I think you’ll be able to fix the issue by going to System => Settings => Cart Settings and re-ordering the list of cart conditions so that ‘variableTax’ is lower than ‘tax’.

The ‘variableTax’ is added by the Tax Classes extension, and is calculated by menu item subtotals and therefore won’t apply to other taxes, while ‘tax’ calculates on the cart subtotal so will apply to anything higher above it in that list.

I understand that you’re using tax classes to solve this problem, but it looks like you’re running into an issue where the base tax is being calculated from the sub-total and the additional tax for restaurants that don’t have the exemption. This is resulting in a difference of 2 cents in the IVU 7%. To fix this, you can try changing the calculation to only make the 7% tax be calculated from the sub-total. This way, you won’t be calculating tax over tax.
