Unable to Install TastyIgniter on localhost.

Does apache own the directory? Did you create the .htaccess files? Are you running PHP 5.6?

These are all common culprits when TastyIgniter gives a http 500 error.

I am trying to install TastyIgniter on my locahost on Ubuntu 16.4 LTS (XAMPP server). I have Downloaded the files put them under htdocs and created a database TastyIgniter with all priviliges but when I try to run it (http://localhost/TastyIgniter-2.1.1) gives me an error ->

This page isn’t working localhost is currently unable to handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500

Please suggest what possibly could be wrong with the server.
