Adding mandatory fees

Is there any developer that can help out to add mandatory fees to the cart? Would assume a new table that holds items that will be added to the cart upon order e.g takeout bag £0.10 which will automatically be added to the total.

If there is a developer who wants to do this then we can discuss further.

You don’t need a developer. Login to the admin portal and go to Sales -> Payments. edit the payment method you’re wanting to add a fee to(or edit all if you want it across the board).

The 2nd half of this page “Misc” is for fees. You can do a flat value or a percentage of order. I haven’t used it myself so I don’t know how it labels the fee item in the cart or on invoices.

My advice as a fellow small business operator would be to adjust your prices to reflect your needs. Customers don’t want to see what we call here “nickel and diming” on all their invoices. If most of your orders will have this fee, it could also be easier to adjust your prices and then provide a “discount” code for people not using a bag. It comes across as a thank you, rather than a penalty.

Hey @h4x0rjdag , you’re right. It enables me to add the bag via payment. Good shout re. absorbing bag into prices. In the UK, most places will charge a bag and accept that it’s mandatory. But you’re making me think that it’s nice to not have £0.10 in the bill, seems petty to take every penny you can. Let me hold off for the time being and give it more thought 🙂. And @valamtech , thanks for offering. I’ll save your name if there’s future developments.

kiwiboy I can only speak about how things are perceived here. Maybe it’s different in your area. I think if it’s really common though then just adjust your item prices to cover the cost of the bag, and then you can be a hero and apply a “coupon” code “saving” your patrons some money. Making you look like the good guy?

It’s your business though, run it however you feel is best!

As in another post, I think that countries and operations and margins differ. Our customers would like to know why an item hat they take-away or order online for pick-up or delivery pay more than when sitting in the restaurant and being served at their table. Packaging costs here are very high and difficult to get thus need to add them to the price of the item that receives such packaging like burgers, rice, chips, etc. Somehow I think a small modification to setting item prices with an option to add packaging costs for that item would really be helpful, but not sure how to implement that.

eko It is amazing how more than a year and many versions further this has not been further addressed. In Nigeria every Kobo / Naira counts and suffering high inflation it is already difficult enough to keep businesses going as restaurant business becomes almost unaffordable. So the option to be transparent in packaging charges for take-away and delivery items becomes more acute as dine-in option will become more favorable because cheaper.

ryanmitchell Sorry, but that is a one of fee, A burger has a box @x-amount, a pizza a box @y- amount, Jollof rice a container @z- amount. When customers order they may order a mix of items and a multitude of them and thus packaging prices vary as does the total. The bag charge is on the order total.
