Upgrade path to latest version from an old v3.0.4-beta.20.1 version

What is the best upgrade path to the latest version (while keeping old order data and customers etc), I am running quiet an old beta version and would like to update to the latest version, however everytime I try I usally get 50 errors and warnings.

Is it a matter of downloading existing version to a local envirment and running the update from there and then updaing compsor or is there a way of importing existing data into a clean install?

Yes that is the approach I could take for sure. Download to local - run the updates and repeat that process until you work out the kinks.

Updating from the betas can be tricky as there were lots of breakages.
