I am a freelance website developer and I am evaluating TastyIgniter.

I am installing using Softaculous on Namecheap hosting.

The first time I installed it I found where I could update TastyIgniter by clicking on a link
in that backend.

That stalled so I closed the tab and tried to go back into front page and the back end.
Both of those failed to bring up a page. So I uninstalled your program from Softaculous.

Then I tried to reinstall it and that also seemed to fail.
The login and the password that Softaculous gave me do not work.
I will now remove the installation for the second time.

Now I will try installing a third time.
It seems to install correctly per Softaculous

but going to the home page of the test restaurant gives me this generic screen

Getting Started
This is TastyIgniter’s demonstration theme to help you get started if you plan on designing your theme from scratch.
Navigate to your admin dashboard (Design > Themes) to choose from a variety of themes pre-built for you to start receiving orders.
Learn more on themes and extension, see the Themes documentation.

I click on the link for Themes documentation and that gives me a screen that says
Page not found (404)

I click on the link
(Design > Themes)
and it brings me to a generic looking login screen with the text at the top left

Username
Password
Login
Forgot your password?

I always copy and paste the login and password whenever I install a script into a notes file
so I use that to try to log in and…
it takes me back to the same login screen
I try the link Forgot your password?

and it is not sending me the password reset link to my email

So far I am having a bad experience with your program. I have to check these things
out before I suggest them to potential clients. So far I would have to say that this is
not a good system to use. That is disappointing because there does not seem to be
many good restaurant website programs for small restaurants.

There is a small restaurant in the town next to mine which I was thinking of contacting
but I won’t unless I can determine that this is a good program to use.

I might give it a one star rating but really I also have a hosting company I wanted to
evaluate for another client of mine. So you have to understand that my time and
energy are limited.

I appreciate any helpful input that you might be able to provide.

Jason

    Good afternoon.

    I’ve never heard of Softaculous.

Is that one of those app installers where rather than install it yourself, you click a button and it implies that it installs it for you?

I installed it manually, which is what I think most people do. There is a manual here: https://tastyigniter.com/docs/installation

Other than that, have you tried raising a ticket with Softaculous ?

I hope you get the issue resolved.

I think that I am making progress.

I see that there are three lines that show up in yellow, after I created a new project
      in the directory ‘mytasty’

Package fruitcake/laravel-cors is abandoned, you should avoid using it.
      No replacement was suggested.

Package swiftmailer/swiftmailer is abandoned, you should avoid using it.
      Use symfony/mailer instead.

Package jakub-onderka/php-parallel-lint is abandoned, you should avoid
      using it.
      Use php-parallel-lint/php-parallel-lint instead.

I am not sure how serious these warnings are, but I thought that I would relay
      them to you.

      Jason

Is that one of those app installers where rather than install it yourself,
you click a button and it implies that it installs it for you?

Yes it is. In most hosting companies that I have seen CPanel used with,
it includes Softaculous. I trust it with common programs like WordPress
but I will now take the opinion that Softaculous is not adequate for all
        programs.

Other than that, have you tried raising a ticket with Softaculous ?

No because I just expected them to pass the buck back to
          TastyIgniter.

          Jason

jasondamisch803 I have only used this type of so called “one-click installer” once many years ago. It sounds great but I find they are very rigid and set in a particular way. So if you want to change anything, forget it. You may even find that it only supports a particular TI version, and that might be why you couldn’t upgrade it.
With some apps I don’t think it is even fit for purpose. Usually on shared hosting packages and you cannot alter particular php settings for starters, or basically anything which you probably will need to. I think you be best starting with a Linux server to which you have root access. Then you can build it from the ground up making sure you set everything up correctly according to the step-by-step instructions on TI. I do not see any instructions on this site telling you to go over to Softaculous and use that to install it. It seems to be a ‘fruity’ way of doing it but you could go back to them and ask them via a support ticket, if you want to use it. It seems to me a non-standard installation method and thus you should approach the third party, whom I presume you are paying?

Yes but not everybody is at your skill level.
A lot of people will just follow the herd and install WordPress.
Then they will go into WordPress and look inside of there for plugins.
I like to think outside of the box which is why I am trying TastyIgniter.
I would not have even known of the existence of TastyIgniter if I had
not gone into my CPanel and then clicked on Softaculous and then
looked at its list of scripts which include among others Prestashop
              and Joomla.

I have never in my life had a problem installing WordPress from
Softaculous. I can tell you that trying to install TastyIgniter has
been work because I normally do not do this. Yes I have used
Putty before but it has been awhile.

I want to compare two test setups. One is TastyIgniter and the
other is WordPress with WooCommerce and another thing which
will help me to manage the menus.

              So here we go!

              Jason

                actually.

I think that my first attempt was a failure.

I got the point where my directory for the website looked like this

                composer.phar laravel mytasty php.ini

and then I tried to type in

                php artisan igniter:install

                and it gave me

could not open input file: artisan

so I think that everything that is in the file folders laravel and mytasty
should be in the directory I want the website to be in. So I went into
cPanel file manager and tried to move all of the files up one directory
level. Then I tried again to type in

                php artisan igniter:install

                and it gave me this…

                In sanctum.php line 21:
                Class “Laravel\Sanctum\Sanctum” not found

so I have to start all over again.

                Oh boy.

                Jason

Jason, Why don’t you try downloading the setup files, upload them to your server and unpack them. Then try using the Wizard to set it up (refer to setup instructions). Download: https://github.com/tastyigniter/setup/archive/master.zip

                  Wizard Installation
Download and unzip the TastyIgniter setup wizard into an empty directory on your server.
Create a MySQL user database for TastyIgniter on your database server.
Upload the TastyIgniter folders and files to your server. Normally the setup.php file will be at the web root directory.
Grant write permissions on the setup directory, its subdirectories and files.
Run the TastyIgniter setup script by accessing setup.php in your web browser. Example, http://example.com/setup.php or http://example.com/folder/setup.php
Follow all onscreen instructions and make sure all installation requirements are checked.

I appreciate the feedback. Now I am just plain curious.

It might benefit me and my clients to have a few options.
Showing them a few options instead of one may be a
good way to prove that I am willing to do just more than
follow a specific plan for them.

Today and possible tomorrow I have to study something
else. The something else would be for a client that I
expect to be working with me soon.

This project will have to wait until the end of the week
                    I suppose.

                    Take Care

                    Jason

Actually I ran out of other things to do so…

Sometimes when I encounter some resistance
be it my fault or somebody elses, I try another route.
So lets go around that hill.

                      see the article

I installed TastyIgniter for Cloudways Hosting

                        jasondamisch803

I just spent 4 days fighting with Softaculous–got it working…mostly. Was stuck at the Setting up/Install a Theme screen until this afternoon.

Go into the admin side, first install demo extensions, then download ALL of the other recommended extensions (there are 15ish), then go into the admin/themes screen and then download the “orange” theme from TastyIgnighter (the built in demo-one does not work), then activate it.

Where I’m stuck, I can make locations and menu items, but I cannot see the menu on the main site, nor “find” a location. Opening up a paid support call to figure out what’s wrong.

Feel free to reach out to me if you’d like: 214-288-4326 or tom@techsmarter.net

See my other two threads in this forum.

I found that installing on Cloudways was much easier than installing on Softaculous with Namecheap.

Who are you hosting with? Do you have a preference?

                          Jason

                            7 days later

I’m having the same issue - installed TI via HostGator/Softaculous and it seemed to install with no issues, but can’t even access the login page - just a 500 error. Any suggestions?
                            TYVM

My suggestion is actually to do this on Cloudways hosting. I was able to do it there with little difficulty. I was going to create a .pdf file describing what I did but I have yet to get around to it. I hope to get that done next week sometime. Sorry I can’t be of more help right this second.
