I tried to Google “TastyIgniter Alternatives” but didn’t find another script that lives outside of WordPress. There are some other solutions such as Owner.com in which they the programmers do everything themselves.

My Quest Continues Elsewhere.

Nice of you to share your review here. Unfortunately you neglected to include that the software is open source and free. The only money the developers make is from their custom extensions and installation/development services.

As a developer you are no doubt aware that bugs are a part of software, especially community supported open source software. Bug fixes in open source depend on the community, generally fixed based on priority. The bug you raised would be a Sev3 at best in any commercial shop, it will get fixed but it isn’t a “drop everything my site doesn’t work” type problem.

(And perhaps instead of writing a blog about it you could join the open source community and contribute the fix… unless you aren’t really a developer at all…)

Perhaps you should stick with commercial packages where you buy the right to gripe when you select the software.

TastyIgniter isn’t perfect, but they do a darn good job as an open source platform to give you something to work from.

I read the review. Seems a bit harsh.
There are alternatives out there. I am using one.
I am not sure if the bug you reported, is actually a bug.
As you mention, it’s quite a basic function so if it was a bug, do you not think many other users would be reporting the same thing? It sounds like you are trying to add an option to the demo products that were there when you installed it? I had a few issues with those demo products so I deleted them and made new products and didn’t have a problem. Why don’t you try doing that?

Just to add regarding stock control. This is not something I have looked at, but saw your criticism of it in the review. I don’t think many independent food businesses stock control food. It’s very time consuming and difficult to manage. Maybe if you are just counting the steaks or high value items. How can you stock control, for example flour, when you use it to dust on a surface and in other such arbitrary ways (adding to a sauce as well). Do you expect the chef to weigh it out every time they use it in a busy kitchen?
Onions - you get a big onion and a small onion and wastage from the skin. How much is left after it is prep’d for use? Then you get bad onions that just need thrown out. Chefs don’t have time to weigh onions and log wastage of such low value items, in my view. You do get businesses that do it but they are penny-pinching corporate bean counter type operations and they don’t produce food that customers enjoy, believe me.

I rate that review one star or one frowny. It did not discuss at all any of the actual features the software comes with (for free, versus $$ from even the ‘cheapest’ freemium or paid offerings). It also does not discuss how the tester went about trying to get help on the forums or elsewhere. When I first set up the software, I ran into issues and received a lot of helpful responses from people in the community that got our site up and running. We’ve been running it for 8 months now, replacing GloriaFoods with it, and we love it. It has some quirks, and some things we’d like to see it do differently, it’s still better for our needs than GloriaFoods (the only other comparably free offering), and is less buggy than a couple of the much more expensive paid offerings we demoed. Overall, I think the point of this thread was to drive traffic to your website, which, congratulations, it did. However, the review was so poorly written, I would probably move on and look for others, if I were still in the exploratory phase of selecting software.

Unfortunately that is an old post from 2020 and Checkout.php is nowhere to be found so it can be edited.
